This summer, three homeowners associations totaling over 1,000 senior citizens were informed IN ADVANCE of hazardous applications of hazardous fumigants chloropicrin and 1,3-dichloropropene (Telone) on Enbar & Yamamoto ranches adjacent to our communities. Californians for Pesticide Reform (CPR) and local support groups, such as Safe Ag Safe Schools--Watsonville, believe that, LIKE OUR LOCAL SENIORS, ALL RESIDENTS OF CALIFORNIA HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW IN ADVANCE WHEN HAZARDOUS PESTICIDES/FUMIGANTS/HERBICIDES WILL BE APPLIED NEAR THEM. CURRENTLY, THIS RIGHT IS DENIED THEM. If you agree that the special treatment given to us should be extended to all Californians and would like to sign their petition, go online to Californians for Pesticide Reform>>Campaigns & Issues>>Notification; scroll down & click on "Please Sign our Petition"; enter your contact information; & scroll down & click on "Add My Name." New legislation is not needed to make this happen. The Director of California Dept. of Pesticide Regulation, Val Dolcini, has the authority to require each of the 50+ County Ag Commissioners in the state to do this. The petition is addressed to him. Thank you! --Woody Rehanek
